“She’s not qualified for marriage”_ Nigerian Army confirmed and explains reasons why the arrest of female soldier who accepted corp member’s proposal

The Nigerian Army has confirmed and explained the reasons why the arrest of female soldier who accepted a NYSC corp’s proposal.

Recall that this female soldier hit headlines after she accepted a NYSC corp’s proposal in Kwara state where their orientation camp was held.

According to the Director of Army Public Relations, Brig-Gen Onyema Nwachukwu, said to Punch on Sunday that the female soldier broke the military laws by public display of amorous relationship with a parliamentary trainee- the NYSC corper.

The Army spokesperson told Punch that the female soldier violated the Nigerian Army rules and regulations guiding the code of conduct of any military persons deployed on duty.

Nwachukwu said that the female soldier’s action amounted of taking advantage of her trainee, also that the public would be outraged and accused the Army of coercion, had a male soldier proposed to female corper during NYSC parade.

“The female soldier in question violated the following rules of the NA:

“1. Fraternization while on official duty at the NYSC camp. That is, indulging in an amorous relationship with a trainee.

“2. A personnel must have served for three years before he/she can qualify for marriage.

3. She disobeyed the Armed Forces of Nigeria standing guidelines and directives for the use of Social Media.

“4. Indulging in romance while in uniform.

“5. Her conduct was prejudicial to good order and military discipline.

“All the above, if proven are in violation of extant laws with attendant disciplinary and penal implications,” he said

However, the Army spokesperson said the female soldier will receive her punishment according to the military disciplinary code, which is different from that of the general public.

“The Nigerian Military like all others, has its disciplinary codes, distinct from that of the general society. Every personnel has voluntarily undertaken to be bound by this code.” He added
