Patricia Etteh, former Speaker of the House of Representatives, has been arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

 

Etteh, the country’s first female Speaker, was arrested on suspicion of fraud in connection with a Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) contract.

 

She was detained for questioning by the anti-graft agency in Abuja on Tuesday, May 17.

 

Etteh was elected Speaker in 2007, but resigned after only a few months due to allegations of financial mismanagement.
