Gunmen kidnap Eze Ndigbo in Ondo.

Chief Donatus Okereke, the Eze Ndigbo of Ifon community in Ose Local Government Area of Ondo state, has been kidnapped by gunmen suspected of being kidnappers.

Okereke, a businessman, was kidnapped by gunmen near Nigercat Quarry Junction in Elegbeka village on Monday morning, November 22.

The abductors allegedly stopped him along Ifon Road and dragged him into the forest, abandoning his vehicle on the road.

According to a village resident, the victim’s vehicle was parked in the middle of the road, raising suspicions among those who alerted the community head in Ifon.

Olaniyi Eni-Olotu, a community leader and the Secretary to the Regent of Ifon, confirmed the kidnapping and said the incident had been reported to the police station.

After abducting the Igbo Chief, the abductors took him through a thick bush path leading to the forest in the area, he said.

According to him, the kidnappers fired a shot into the air to stop their victim’s vehicle before abducting him, and they took a large sum of money from the man’s vehicle.

“The Regent of Ifon swung into action as soon as we received word of his kidnapping and contacted the police as well as the Amotekun corps. We are optimistic that the man will be rescued alive and unscathed “Added he.

Funmilayo Odunlami, a spokesman for the Ondo State Police Command, said the incident was reported at the police station, and detectives from the command swung into action.

Bullet shells were discovered where the vehicle was parked in the middle of the road, according to Odunlami.

“The victim, a businessman, left his home saying he wanted to go buy something, but he actually went to a quarry in the area,” according to the PPRO.

After those who saw the vehicle tried his line, he discovered that his vehicle was seen in the middle of the road and that his number was not going through. Because bullet shells were seen on the road where they saw his vehicle, it is actually a case of suspected kidnapping.”

“The DPO within the axis has mobilised his men to search for him,” she said, assuring that the victim would be rescued alive and unharmed by men of the state Police command from the area who are on the trail of the hoodlums.
