Current Vice President of Nigeria, prof. Yemi Osinbajo has disclosed that the Federal Government is considering to put into plans to launch “Operation Feed Yourself” to subdue malnutrition in the country.
Laolu Akande who is VP Osinbajo’s spokesman said that the Vice President issued this at a virtual high level meeting on nutrition.
This initiative which will be a collaboration between the Federal Government and state, the Vice President said it will be under aegis of National Economic council (NEC) and the National Council of Nutrition(NCN).
The vice president said that the initiative which will help to encourage the establishment of urban farms and small home gardens are as part of effort to maintain food security in the country.
“States and the FGN will promote what the convener has described as ‘Operation Feed Yourself’. This is more of the establishment of urban farms and homestead gardens. This is simply something that we think should be a mass appeal to citizens in the states, and the encouragement we can give them so that individuals and schools develop their own farms or homestead gardens.
This obviously not only helps individuals and families but the excess can be sold to others and generally improve food security,” he said.
