According to the Chihuahua State Office of the Attorney General, the ladies are Nohem Medina Martnez and Yulizsa Ramrez, both 28 years old and from El Paso.
The bags holding their bodies were discovered roughly 17 miles apart on a stretch of Juárez-El Porvenir Road on streets in Ciudad Juárez, Mexico, on Sunday morning, January 16.
In what authorities suspect to be a homophobic-motivated crime, one of the deaths was discovered in the San Agustin area and the other at the entrance to the Jesus Carranza community.
They were visiting family members in Ciudad Juárez, according to the Mexican newspaper El Diario, but the family members last saw them on Saturday.
The length of time the couple had been in Mexico is still unknown. They were both Mexican citizens who resided in Texas.
They married in 2021 and had three children together.
‘The concern is that authorities will absolutely do nothing,’ Chihuahua Committee for Sexual Diversity director Karen Arvizo said to DailyMail.com.
‘We feel like we are treated like second-class citizens and that we really don’t matter.’
Authorities in Ciudad Juárez discovered the bodies of two more women at a junction in the Patria-Zaragoza area on Monday. They had been tortured and shot as well. They haven’t been found yet.
At the scene, one of the victims was pronounced dead. The other died of a gunshot wound at a local hospital.
It’s unclear whether the four murders are linked. The investigation is still underway.
