Nasiru Ahmed, a 25-year-old businessman from Kaduna, was sentenced to seven strokes of the cane for stealing salt and wheat by a Kaduna magistrates’ court.
Ahmed, who lives in Kaduna’s Tudun Wada neighborhood, was sentenced by the court after pleading guilty to charges of shoplifting and stealing.
Mr Chidi Leo, the prosecution, informed the court that on February 7, one Malam Abdulmalik Lateef reported the case to the Kawo Police Station.
Ahmed is accused of stealing five bags of salt and two bags of flour from the complainant’s store in Kawo Market, Kaduna.
Ahmed was punished by Magistrate Ibrahim Emmanuel after pleading guilty and pleading for mercy.
