Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, an Islamic cleric, has condemned the heinous murder of Deborah Samuel, a 200-level student at Shehu Shagari College of Education in Sokoto state.
Deborah, a student at Sokoto’s Shehu Shagari College of Education, was murdered by an enraged mob last week for allegedly blaspheming the prophet.
During his sermon in Kaduna, Sheik Gumi reminded extremist Muslims that the prophet of Islam, Muhammad, never killed anyone despite being insulted on numerous occasions.
Gumi claimed that the prophet’s refusal to avenge the insults hurled at him by non-Muslims while he was alive was due to his fear of being labeled a murderer.
“Anyone who kills a non-Muslim who they have agreed to live peacefully with, will not smell the fragrance of Paradise for 40 years. If we think by killing Deborah, people who are not of the same faith with us will stop insulting our prophet, then we are in delusion” he said
