After the Nigeria Football Federation terminated Gernot Rohr in December, Eguavoen was appointed on a temporary basis.
Rohr was Nigeria’s longest-serving manager when he took over in August 2016, but his contract was terminated after guiding the Eagles to the 2022 World Cup qualifying play-offs and a place in the Cameroon Nations Cup.
The Franco-German also led Nigeria to the 2018 World Cup and the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt, where they finished third.
After the Nigeria Football Federation terminated Gernot Rohr in December, Eguavoen was appointed on a temporary basis.
“Eguavoen is on the NFF payroll, and he will not be paid for the position he is performing as the team’s temporary coach,” NFF President Amaju Pinnick recently revealed on Arise TV.
“As the squad proceeds in the tournament, he will be eligible for winning incentives.”
Eguavoen became the first coach in Nigerian history to win all three first matches at the ongoing AFCON.
