AFCON 2021: Eguavoen united the Super Eagles into a single family – Iwobi

Alex Iwobi, a forward for the Super Eagles, has praised interim coach Austin Eguavoen for making the team “more of a family” since he took over in December.

After the Nigerian Football Federation replaced Gernot Rohr in December, Eguavoen was named to guard the squad at the 2021 AFCON in Cameroon.

Iwobi, who made his Africa Cup of Nations debut against Guinea-Bissau in Cameroon in 2021, provided more insight into the Nigerian squad under Eguavoen.

“I’m not sure much has changed playing under Eguavoen,” the Everton forward told PUNCH Sports Extra. “But I sense the team is hungrier under him now.”

“On and off the field, we’ve become more of a family.” We’ve merged into one large family.”

“We’re all pleased to have won our first three games,” Iwobi added.

“These victories demonstrate that we are prepared to face any opponent, and they send a positive message to any team interested in playing Nigeria.” We’re doing well, but we must maintain our consistency.

“We want to win the AFCON by beating the best, and we’re not getting carried away with these victories.”

“We must remain focused and humble because there are still more difficult games to be played, and we will continue to do our country proud.”

Despite not playing in his preferred No.10 position, the former Arsenal forward has committed to give his all for the squad.

“My favorite position is No. 10, but I’m willing to play in any position the coach wants me to play in.”

“I’ll give it my all for the team.” I’m not opposed to playing on the wing.”
