On Monday, February 14, the Kaduna state police command charged Gado Yahaya, a 29-year-old tailor, before a Kaduna Magistrate Court for allegedly killing his neighbor following an argument over a pail of water.
The event occurred in the Rigasa neighborhood, where Liman Salisu died during a struggle with Yahaya over a pail of water, according to reports.
The police command issued the following statement:
“He is a resident of Rigasa in Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State and was arraigned on charges of culpable homicide before a Kaduna Magistrate Court on Monday.
“The Prosecutor, Insp. Chidi Leo alleged that Yahaya killed Salisu with a pestle during their fight over the bucket of water.
“In the course of the fight, he went into the kitchen, picked a pestle and hit Salisu on his head. He slumped and died on the way to the hospital.”
Before ordering Yahaya to be remanded in a detention facility, Chief Magistrate Ibrahim Emmanuel remarked that the court lacked authority to hear the case.
