
A boat carrying ten people capsized in Gamafoi village of Kafin Hausa local government area in Jigawa state, killing seven girls aged 10 to 12.
The children were said to have left Gafasa village in the Kafin Hausa local government area for Gasanya village in the Auyo local government area on their way to Maulud (a religious gathering).
The boat capsized around 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, according to Malam Adamu Haruna Gamafoi, the village head who reported the incident to the police.
“A boat carrying about ten girls capsized. Three (3) people were rescued, but seven (7) people were reported dead.” Gamafoi stated.

In the absence of a craftsman, the girls were said to have driven the boat parked at River Gasanya themselves.
According to him, all of the victims were taken to Kafin Hausa General Hospital, where seven of them were pronounced dead by a doctor.
ASP Lawan Shiisu Adam, a spokesman for the Jigawa State Police Command, confirmed the incident to the Nigerian Tribune.
